George Mathieson was born and educated in Birmingham, where he still lives.

He joined Lloyds Bank in 1984 and quickly moved up through the ranks on an accelerated management programme.  Whilst at Lloyds Bank he qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

In 1991, he left Lloyds Bank to pursue a career in Pensions and Investments, which culminated in him establishing his own IFA Practice in 1996. This firm specialised in the provision of highly technical advice to predominately high net worth clients.

George Mathieson

It was during this time that George started to become involved in Pensions and Divorce, and built up a reputation in Birmingham as being the leading expert in this field.

His vast network of legal connections attracted the attention of a leading Private Bank, and in 2005 George’s career went full circle, and he rejoined the world of banking.

However, George became increasingly frustrated that there were too many calls on his time with the bank, and he was unable to devote himself to the work he truly loved and in which he excelled – Pensions and Divorce. It was however during this time that he became involved in one of the leading cases in Pensions and Divorce, Martin-Dye in the Court of Appeal.

In 2008, George decided to establish his own business, dealing exclusively in the field of Pensions and Divorce – thus Mathieson Consulting Limited was born. This would then allow him to concentrate all of his efforts in becoming one of the country’s leading practitioners in this field, with a reputation of seeking pragmatic solutions to complex scenarios, often thinking “outside of the box” and ignoring the typical “cut and paste” approach to report writing.

Since 2000, George has acted in one capacity or another in over 500 Ancillary Relief Proceedings, often as a Single Joint Expert, sometimes as a Shadow of an SJE, on other occasions as a Pensions Forensic Analyst.

He has a vast experience and depth of knowledge in this field, which he shares with others via lectures around the country, and a number of articles published in various professional journals.

When not musing over and getting excited by the latest snippet of pension’s legislation, George enjoys being with his family; watching, playing, and coaching cricket; and eating Indian food (whilst listening to 1970’s Prog Rock).
